waiting for the Olympics Location: Stratford, London (England, United Kingdom) Photo recording what it was like before Olympics. Google Sat still showing early building site
Cycle leaning against a post, probably because no other cycle parking in the area. The informational sign labours at length why swimming is not allowed in the dock, yet in the background an open water swimming event, sponsored by British Ga ... [more]
This sign has been 'edited' presumably to remove a no. In the background are swmmers in Royal Victoria Dock, and a Spiller's Millennnium Mill is on the right Taken from the bridge across victoria dock, which has 80 steps, and a lift.
Cycle Parking by the View Tube (which was unfortunately not open to the public at the time we visited) and the view of the Olympic construction work.
It looks like this used to be a route, but its overgrown and strewn with litter now so it has probably been abandoned.
Sadly the Greenway is closed here and there's a rather awkward and hard to find diversionary route round - that took us through the Olympic construction site.
A rather lovely industrial building visible from the Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times.
The Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times and to compare the original with this rebranded gateway.
The Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times. This looks like a (rather expensive?) rebranding exercise - presumably to spruce up this wonderful abandoned railway route in time for some big local event in 2012.
Good view of Canary Wharf from the Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times.
The Boris Bikes just fit through these filters - but the gates were wide open anyway. The Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times.
The Greenway towards the Olympic Park - opening times according to the sign are: OPENING TIME Every day 5:30am CLOSING TIME 1st October to 31st March Gate closes from 7pm 1st April to 30th September Gate closes from 9pm
Useless signage, and a horribly narrow cycle lane. At last we're beginning to see signs of the end of this sort of rubbish facilities - in London at least.
Sorry about the over exposed photo - but I needed to record the advanced stop line (ASL here) permits solo motorcycles too.
The road crossing point on the far side is so far round the corner into the side road that when you're standing there it is very difficult to see the fast traffic turning there. Horrible!
